The ninth-ranked Oles enter today's doubleheader having won 12 straight and 14 of their first 15. … The only blemish on the Oles' record is a 7-3, Game 1 nonconference loss to UW-Stout on March 6. … The Oles’ Todd Mathison tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener vs. Macalester to go to 4-0 this season, 13-0 for his career and 6-0 in seven career league appearances. Mathison is yet to give up an earned run in conference play in 38.1 career innings. … The Oles’ 14-1 start is their best since the 2000 squad started with the same mark. The 2000 team finished 32-3 in regular season play and advanced to the Midwest Regional Final. … St. Olaf’s 12-game winning streak ties as the second-longest in school history behind the 1987 team’s 14-game rally. The 1988 team had a 12-game streak as well. … St. Olaf has five starters batting over .400, led by Luke Gagnon’s .500 (23-for-46) average. Chris Terrazas (.471), Josh Schultheis (.453), Carson Jones (.436) and Andrew Schmeising (.418) are the others. … In their first 16 games, St. Olaf has outscored its opponents 121-48 — including 19-1 in the second, 21-7 in the fourth and 22-7 in the fifth.

The Cardinals struggled to come up with any clutch hits in dropping both ends of an MIAC doubleheader to Saint John's Monday. SMU managed just 12 hits and seven runs in falling to the Johnnies, 5-3 and 7-4. … Todd Mathison threw a three-hit shutout and Carson Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead St. Olaf to a 3-0 win over Macalester in the first half of an MIAC-opening doubleheader Monday. The Oles completed the sweep with an 8-1 win.

Last Meeting
The Cardinals managed just two runs — one in each game — as St. Olaf used a pair of late-inning outbursts to hand SMU a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setbacks, 6-1 and 8-1 last year.

With Monday's back-to-back losses to Saint John's, the Cardinals have now lost six of their last seven games. … SMU's 5-2 win over UW-La Crosse last Wednesday snapped SMU's season-high four-game losing streak. … After equalling a season-high with 11 hits in their win vs. UW-La Crosse, SMU managed just 12 hits — combined — in its two losses to SJU. … SMU has now been held to four runs or less in seven of their nine losses. … Brady Knudsen (Racine, Wis.) and Kyle Ryan (St. Paul, Minn.) were both held without a hit in Game 1 vs. the Johnnies, snapping their season-high six-game hitting streaks.
