The Gusties scored early, and often, as GAC put together a pair of two-run innings in the fourth and fifth to beat SMU 4-1 in the first game of the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader a year ago, then erupted for six runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth erasing a 9-5 SMU lead en route to a 17-11 Game 2 victory.

The Cardinals’ back-to-back wins vs. Macalester marked their first MIAC sweep since taking two from Augsburg (3-2, 6-2) on May 2, 2005. … The Cardinals have now won three of the last four games outscoring their opponents 47-27 in that span. … SMU's 17 runs vs. Carleton Monday not to mention their 20 hits were both season highs. … The Cardinals' 17 runs were also the most since SMU plated 21 in a 21-2 win over Hillsdale Baptist on March 9, 2000. … David Krieger (Mendota Heights, Minn.) enjoyed a banner day vs. Macalester, going 5-for-7 with a double and five RBIs.
