The Knights snapped a two-game losing streak with their 6-2, Game 1 win over Bethel on Saturday, but gave up 16 runs including grand slams by the Royals' brother tandem of Brandon and Kirby Carr in dropping Game 2, 16-1. … Bethel's 16 runs scored marked the fifth time Carleton has allowed 10 or more runs in a game, and the third time they have surrendered 16 or more. … Carleton's Game 1 win and then Game 2 loss vs. Bethel marked the first time this season the Knights have not won at least two in a row. … Rob Trettin has beenn the Kniights' offensive leader, boating a team-best .429 batting average, while also compiling team highs in hits (18), home runs (1), RBIs (14) and slugging percentage (.643). … Eric Greenlee has stolen nine straight bases without being thrown out. … Ethan Guevin has been the leader of the Knights' pitching staff, throwing a team-high 29.0 innings en route to a 3-2 record and a 1.86 ERA. The Cardinals saw their losing streak vs. St. Thomas climb to 13 with back-to-back losses vs. UST Saturday. SMU led 7-2 in the opener, only to give up nine fifth-inning runs in falling 11-9. The Tommies rode a six-run seventh inning to a 12-4, Game 2 win. … Carleton, meanwhile, settled for a split in its MIAC DH vs. Bethel Saturday. Doug Sylvester was 4-for-5, Rob Trettin blasted a two-run homer as Carleton beat Bethel 6-2 in the first game. The Royals routed the Knights in Game 2, riding a pair of grand slam home runs to a 16-1 win.

The Cardinals' losses to St. Thomas Saturday extended a pair of losing streaks. SMU has now lost a season-high eight straight, and has dropped the last 13 straight vs. the Tommies. The Cardinals' last win vs. UST came in 2001, when Scott Morrison belted the second of his two home runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift SMU to a 6-5 victory. … St. Olaf's 21 runs and 24 hits in Game 1 last Monday were the most allowed by the Cardinals this season.
