An inning later, when the Cardinals rallied for a second-straight, come-from-behind, 6-5 victory over the Cobbers, it marked the end of Winecke's final season as a Cardinal. And what a senior season it was, as Winecke posted career-bests in virtually every offensive category.. Monday, the SMU first baseman was rewarded for his efforts, landing All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for the first time in his storied four-year career. Winecke started all 20 MIAC games at first base for SMU, which won three of its last four conference games en route to a 6-14 mark. The SMU senior hit .356 (21-for-59) in conference play, while leading the team in runs (24), doubles (8), total bases (32), slugging percentage (.542) and walks (13). He also belted one of SMU's three MIAC home runs and committed just six errors in 149 chances (.961 fielding percentage). Overall, Winecke closed out his days as a Cardinal by leading the team in batting average (.374), runs (27), doubles (11), total bases (50), slugging % (.549), walks (19) and on-base % (.478). With singles in both games vs. Concordia in the team's season finale, Winecke who ended the season with a seven-game hitting streak also reached base safely in 29 of the Cardinals' 31 games. Brady Knudsen (Racine, Wis.), who hit .353 (24-for-68) and drove in 13 runs in 20 MIAC games, was an honorable-mention All-MIAC selection. |
