As I look back on my college baseball career, I can not believe that its almost over. I can still remember back when I was a kid and got in trouble once for not leaving a note that I was going to play baseball with my friends. So the next day, I left a note for my parents saying, Consider this a permanent note, if I am not here, I am playing baseball at the grass field.
First of all, I would like to thank my parents for coming to every game they possibly could. You guys have always been supportive of me and have guided me towards becoming the person that I am today. I could not have asked for better parents and better people to model my own life after. Thanks, Mom, for teaching me how to always see the positives in every situation, even in failure. Thanks, Dad, for the countless hours you spent with me on the field teaching me the game and the importance of dedication and hard work. Again thank both of you for giving me the opportunity to succeed both on the field and in life.
Next, I would like to thank the coaching staff, Coach Whaley, Coach Huegel and Coach Cicalello. Coach Whaley, you have taught me more about the game of baseball then I would have ever imagined, and how to take what I learned on the field and apply it to my life off the field. Coach Huegel, while I did not get to experience any of your conditioning programs first-hand, I sure enjoyed watching you make Juice and Joe circle the track over and over again. Coach Cic, while I only got the opportunity to play for you for one year, I got the privilege of playing with for three. You have been a great friend, teammate and coach.
I would also like to thank the seniors, Juice, Rinker, Jose, Popek, Jake. You guys have been great teammates and even more importantly, you have all become great friends. Juice, weve been teammates our entire lives, growing up together back in Gods country (St. Charles), weve even lived together yet you never cease to amaze me. Rink, even after you ended my high school career, we are going to finish our college careers together. Thankfully you turned out to be a pretty nice guy, so I wasnt able to hold a grudge for too long. Jose, thanks for all your hard work and for just being the person that you are. Jake, its easy to tell how hard you have worked to become a better ball player while at SMU, all you have to do is get within 10 feet of your socks! And Joe, when you are running for president some day, just let me know, Ill vote for ya. Thank you guys for being the great teammates and great friends that you are.
I would like to thank some of the past players and coaches Ive had the honor of playing with. Zig, Dusty, Kittelson, Pugh, Hollnagel, Steig, Gornick, Sho, Coach Mollner and everyone else that has been a member of the SMU baseball team during my years here. Ive learned something from all of you and each of you has made me a better baseball player and person.
Finaly, I would like to thanks some of the returning guys, Leech, Coz, the Blacks, Fiorentino, Krieger, Brady, Chambers, Satoshi, WinHawk, Mark, Matt Popek and anyone else that has had an impact on my career here at Saint Marys. Good luck guys, Ill be checking on you from time to time, make us old timers proud to be a Cardinal.
Now that my baseball career is coming to a close, it,s time to move on, start a new chapter in my life and I guess it might finally be time to write a new permanent note.
